Born July 22, 1955 in Leningrad. In 1977 graduated from the Faculty of History, Leningrad State University. Is a teacher at the Faculty of Philology, St.Petersburg State University. Is engaged into encyclopaedic work. Was in charge of the historical edits of "Russian Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Humanities" (in three volumes); was editor-in-chief of the encyclopaedia "The Three centuries of St.Petersburg". Is author of over 100 printed works published both in Russia and abroad. Has written a number of scripts for documentary and opinion-based films. Takes part in cinema and television projects including the 96-episode "The Second World War: Day by Day, The Russian Version".
