Born in 1945 in Leningrad. 1963: after leaving Leningrad School No. 239 became a student of the Department of Russian Language and Literature, Faculty of Philology, Leningrad State University. 1968: graduated and became a doctoral student of the Lexicographic Section (now the Department) of the Institute of Linguistics of the USSR Academy of Sciences (the Leningrad branch) - now the Institute of Linguistic Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences. 1971-1977: junior research associate of this Institute. 1974: defended a doctoral dissertation ("Old Russian Graffiti of the 11th/14th Centuries as a Linguistic Source"). A. P. Evgenyeva, PhD in Philology, was the research supervisor. 1977 - present: Assistant Lecturer, Associate Professor, Full Professor at the Department of Russian, Faculty of Philology of St. Petersburg State University. 1994: defended a post-doctoral dissertation ("Old Russian Epigraphic Materials of the 10th/15th Centuries: Linguistic Source Studies"). An active participant of various international and Russian congresses, symposia and conferences.
