Born June 2, 1961 in Leningrad, in Petrogradskaya Storona, a district in the historical centre. In 1968 went to a school that specialised in teaching German, then left it for a comprehensive school since the family moved to another district. When she was a schoolgirl, she also studied at a musical and a choreography school. Left school in 1978 and was admitted to the German Department at the Faculty of Philology of Leningrad State University. Almost at once transferred to the Bulgarian Department, from where graduated in 1984. The same year started her career as a Departmental Assistant and then as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Russian as a Foreign Language. Several times left this place for the Institute of Russian Literature: first time, to work at the Pushkin Cabinet, then, to work at the Folklore Sector – still, each time eventually making a return back to the Faculty of Russian as a Foreign Language. In 1999 defended her Candidate's dissertation in Folklore Studies at the Institute of Russian Literature. Since then has been sharing her teaching and research work between Russian as a Foreign Language and Folklore Studies. At present, is an Associate Professor at the Department of the Russian Language for Humanitarian and Natural Science Faculties, the Faculty of Philology, St.Petersburg State University.
