About

Born October 17, 1955. In 1982 defended his Candidate's dissertation entitled "The Letters of 18th Century Russian Authors and Russian Prose Development (1740–1780)". In 1997 defended his Doctoral dissertation entitled "Russian Literature in the Context of Orthodox Culture". His expertise developed under a particular influence of D.Maksimov and A.Chicherin. Has been a teacher since 1982. At present, reads the following courses at the Department of the History of Russian Literature: "History of Russian Literature: 18th Century"; "Literary Theory: Rhetoric"; "Literary Process in Russia". Holds the seminar "18th Century Russian Literature". As a guest professor has taught at the universities of Germany (Rostock, 1986–1988; Goettingen, 1996), the USA (Lawrence, Kansas, 2001–2002), delivered reports and lectures at the universities in Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, India, Ukraine, the USA. Married. His wife, Lidia Strechen, is a specialist in English philology, with a particulat interest in William Shakespeare’s works. She is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Philology of St. Petersburg State University. Their daughter, Irina Bukharkina, a specialist in Germanic philology, is a postgraduate student of St.Petersburg State University.
