Journalism of perestroika: Glasnost and democratisation
The lecture is devoted to the evolution of Soviet mass media during the second half of the 1980s/early 1990s in the conditions of democratisation and glasnost. The following issues are discussed: the phenomenon of distribution and legalisation of independent "informal (alternative) press"; the 1990 USSR laws "On the Press and Other Mass Media" and "On Public Organisations" and their influence on the mass media development; mass media commercialisation and changes in it typology; division of political forces in press. The characteristics of the journalist creative process of the 1985-1990s are also discussed: the trend towards the personification in press and electronic mass media, the range of opinion journalism subjects in the perestroika period.
