General and opinion journalism and during the Great Patriotic War
The lecture is focused on the events and processes going on in the sphere of Soviet journalism during the Great Patriotic War, from the coverage of the union with Germany and USSR's annexing of new territories to the radio broadcast of the Victory Salute in Moscow. The following issues are studied: the pre-war mass media system, military press establishment, development of the network of military correspondents. An account is given of the defence themes: patriotic education and encouragement of hate for the enemy, launching of new radio broadcasts, strengthening of the role of opinion journalism in the general journalistic process. Special attention is drawn to the major opinion journalists of that period: B. Gorbatov, K. Simonov, A. Tolstoy, I. Erenburg et al.
