Relations between the government and the press in pre-revolutionary Russia

Censorship played a pivotal role in pre-revolutionary Russian journalism. The lecture is devoted to the formation and development of the Russian secular censorship in the 18th/early 20th centuries. Main principles of censorship committees' work are explained and the social relation to the institute of free speech restriction is shown.
