Introduction to the "Soviet Architecture of the 1920s/1950s" lecture cycle"
The general view of the Russian architecture development in the first half of the 20th century is given. The process of Soviet architecture formation is studied, from its origins towards the 1940s/early 1950s. Main stylistic trends of this period are analysed. They were being formed in the process of a complicated interaction of innovative achievements and classical heritage transformation. The architecture is studied from the point of view of its interaction with the culture of that period depending on artistic and social processes and historical catastrophes.
