Folklore as a Collection of Plots and the Concept of Cultural Plots. The Present Tense Category
Cultural imperatives are preassigned to culture carriers in the same manner as language forms are. To turn the events of the relevant present of the inner life into facts of the narrated and, therefore, socialised past they have to be arranged in the form of a complete story. A set of such common plots forms the life repertoire. This repertoire is used to forecast the future and to create the past. It is the identification of this repertoire that the mass texts analysis is focused on, the results of that being presented in this lecture.
