"A Hero of Our Time" by Mikhail Lermontov
This lecture is devoted to A Hero of Our Time, a novel by Mikhail Lermontov. Conditions of the protagonist's depicting, different from those in Eugene Onegin, are described. It is proved that the novel is built on the combination of different viewpoints; the same can be said of the protagonist's image. The protagonist's love stories are analysed. Pechorin's constant urge is the urge to take power over human souls, the urge to occupy God's place in the human world.
