Russian Culture in the Epoch of Peter the Great
This lecture is devoted to the reforms of Peter the Great and their significance for Russian cultural life. These reforms were aimed at destroying the traditional Russian culture and creating the culture of West European type instead. Two groups of reforms are studied: the destructive ones (the Decree on Western Dress and the Decree on Shaving) and the positive ones (the reform of education and upbringing). The reform's effects are discussed, including those influencing literature.
